One income...

No wonder one-income families are so rare these days. We thought we could move into the district where I teach. But we can't afford it.

If you're supposed to spend less than 30% of your monthly pay on your mortgage, how do people buy houses in the first place? A $160k home with a 30-year mortgage and 6% interest is about $1150 a month. That means you've got to be bringing home at least $3800 a month!

I've got a master's degree, and 8 years on the job, and I won't be there for a while.

This sucks...now I've got to tell my realtor that, well, after all, we won't be needing your help because we can't afford it. I should have been a realtor. 3% commission on each house you help someone buy or sell could add up pretty quickly.

I second the notion. Sorry to hear that bro, but you could always pick up another sport and summmer school, then buy a house you'll never see...

Hear hear. Sorry bro. Yep, that's why we didn't buy in D20. You asked how people do it? They do it by drowning themselves in credit card (and other) debt. D49 isn't looking that bad! :) Seriously though, it's not D20, but it still is a decent district and probably better then most of the other districts in this country. I was going to post a blog soon about the new H.S. they are building about a mile or two from us...sounds pretty good. Go Wolfpack (or whatever wolf-ism they are going to go by)!

Hang in there, maybe you can buy ours. We can't really afford it anyway.

Let me tell you, you could get a heckuva house in Chugwater for that. My parents have a three bedroom, two bath, full shop (with a greasepit), two-car garage place that they paid $50,000 to purchase. And, my mom could teach your kids in kindegarten! It's a steal!

Or... you can rent our house. Sounding better already, right????

I've got an even better idea. Let's all pool our money together and get a 4-level, 4000 square foot house in D-20. We each get 1 floor, 1000 feet each. Think of the benefits...built in baby-sitting, friends a floor away, hearing things you wish you didn't hear, etc. Priceless! If you're thinking "compound", don't worry...we'll leave 1 window un-boarded... :)

My wife and I have long talked about buying a large house to share with other people. There are some veritable mansions in D20 where three full families could live comfortably separate and yet have great community space. I would actually seriously consider such an option.

You know, depending on the setup, it could really work. You could always add side entrances, small kitchens, etc on each floor much like you do when renting a place out.

Count us in...says Matty without consulting his wife.

Marshall, Lindsay and I found at least a 5 acre lot in Palmer Lake for 350,000 (I think). This is small house there but room for lots more. If you put walls around it, for security only of course, you could have a nice little compound...er...gated neighborhood.
